Two Hearts are One
This Valentine walnut bowl is really two valentines or hearts merged. The bowl itself is carved from a walnut crotch with side thicknesses of less that 3/16". The other valentine or heart is a walnut board that the bowl is embedded in. It stands at an angle to make a stand for the bowl. A small leg under the bowl supports the bowl about 1.5" high.
(The red cast is a reflection in the finish of a red car that was parked nearby when I was taking photos.)
The stand sits at an angle to balance the bowl. While it balanced well with the bowl empty, I added a small foot to keep it from tipping when the bowl contains objects. The base of the stand (not shown here) contains my initials and date for the work.
