Improvise As Needed

My router mounts to the top of the swing box with two 2 1/2" U bolts.  It doesn't move or wiggle.

I used materials and tools I either had on hand or could buy easily.

You might get away with using a rotary carving tool, like a Dremel, for small objects.  I've used one rotary tool as a small, hand-held router for years without problems.  I burned another out very quickly using it as a router (And I thought that its replaceable brushes were an advantage.)

I found a Sears Craftsman rotary saw on sale.  It's basically a two-speed router that accepts 1/8" and 1/4" bits.  With a 5 amp. motor, it has plenty of power.
