A Swinging Box

The dimensions of the box are about 18" high and 2 feet wide when the box is squared to form a rectangle.  The parallel sides are of equal length--very important.

To keep the swing box from flopping around, screen door hinges connect the corners.  If you get the tensions on the springs equal, the box stands upright.  In the photo below, the springs have slightly unequal tensions, but it doesn't matter in actual use.  The springs make the router return to a "home-left/right" position.

Tip:  Use good hinges and strong hooks for the springs.  If you don't, the hinges will bend if a spring comes off.  (I'll probably replace the screw hooks with eye bolts.

(Note the cut-out in the frame of the bench.  I needed a little more travel with the swing arm.)
