The Inspiration

In 2003, my Dad found a large Butternut tree washed up on the bank of the river that runs through our farm. I cut it up into five foot lengths for curing in our barn. In the fall of 2005, I had it and some other pieces of wood sliced up at a local bandsaw sawmill. I had two 1" thick slabs plus two 3" boards of nice Butternut wood when I finished. ...seemed like a waste to cut the boards any more.

Carved on a slab of butternut, this shallow relief carving is suitable as a wall hanging above a mantle.
