About Minnie Pearl

Sarah Ophelia Colley Cannon was born and reared in my hometown, Centerville, Tennessee.  Minnie Pearl's hometown, Grinders Switch, is actually a small railroad crossing just across the Duck River from Centerville.

As plans were made to install a larger-than-live sculpture of Minnie Pearl on the town square of Centerville, I became inspired to carve a "Minnie Pearl."  The carving now resides in the Chamber of Commerce Office in Centerville on the town square.  The Bill Rains sculpture of Minnie Pearl is on the other side of the square.

About the Carving

This carving is on display at the Grinders Switch Interpretative Center in the Chamber of Commerce in Centerville, TN.

During the holiday season a worker busy in the back of the Chamber's office observed a lady enter the office and begin a conversation up front when the reception area was empty. It turned out that the lady had mistaken the carving for an employee! Maybe she thought Minnie was minding the store!
